One Sunday afternoon, a close friend of mine came to see me because he had a conflict.
He was extremely angry with someone in his life, and felt he was not being successful enough at forgiving this other person.
He said, “Jerry, I feel like an asshole because I know forgiveness will bring me peace, but I’m not doing it anyway!”
I said to him, “You came to the right person, because I know how you feel. You see, I’m a recovering asshole!” My friend began to laugh, and in that moment, the humor connecting us helped him release his frustration toward himself.
This experience reminds us that, when a person feels we have a life experience in common, a positive feeling of equality and non-judgmental grows.
Love and Peace,
Jerry and Diane
