Belle: The Power of Love and a Community Discussion
Thank you to those who attended AHC's fundraiser movie showing of Belle at the New Parkway Theater on February 15th - especially to those who came to the after movie discussion. The theater was packed, as was AHC afterwards, with those who wanted to discuss their experience in a safe community space. Using the ancient Native American tradition of joining together through a circle process, numerous individuals opened up to the group and shared their critical analysis of the race and class politics that the movie tackled while applying it to their own lives. The film stirred deep emotions in many of the viewers through its powerful portrayal of relationships, and the impacts of racism, status quo, fear, love and speaking truth to power. The issues presented in the film, set in the 18th century, are as pertinent as they were back then as they are today. If you haven't seen it yet, it is highly recommended.
