The Art of Forgetting

Our culture spends a lot of time and a lot of money learning to remember.

Our collective egos, which make up our culture, teach us there is value in remembering everything.

Our egos are very selective about stimulating us to not forget and keep alive many things from our past.

The ego encourages us to remember every hurt we’ve experienced, to keep grievances alive, to see value in anger we felt in the past, and to keep fear about everything alive in our hearts. The ego says it’s good to be busy all the time, and not to take time to have a still mind; to see value in being cruel to another person, to attack others and ourselves, to believe and remember that we are not good enough.

The ego believes many things are impossible, including having a constant peace of mind, that wars are inevitable.

It encourages us to believe in separation, and that it’s ok to hurt other people, that it’s helpful to believe we are a victim of the world we see.

Forgiveness is a way to let go of the past. It’s a way of experiencing a sense of oneness and wholeness in this world. It’s a way of seeing no value in keeping judgments and grievances.

Forgiveness allows us to remember that our natural state is love, kindness, tenderness, gentleness, compassion. It is a place where one sees no value in anger or blame.

When we forgive we rediscover the power of love over fear, the power of having a quiet mind over a busy mind, the power of living a life free of judgments.

Is it not time to see the value of letting go of anything we learn from our egos and to remind ourselves that unconditional love, kindness, gentleness, compassion are part of our natural spiritual state?
