The Hope Project was started in 1975 with the aim of feeding starving children in a very poor neighborhood in New Delhi. Thirty five years later, it has grown into several facilities and services: a school that serves 600 children a day, a health clinic that provides HIV, pre-natal and gynecological care, as well as eye exams and healthcare for hundreds of families in the neighborhood.
The Hope Project also teaches adults computer science, sewing, jewelry making and other occupational training as well as providing microlending.
Richard Cuadra is currently the chair of the international board of directors for The Hope Project, and Madhura Cuadra serves as a facilitator for the Center.
In October 2009, Richard and Madhura presented an Attitudinal Healing workshop to ninety people from all over India. Eight employees of The Hope Project become Attitudinal Healing facilitators, and in November they began four Attitudinal Healing peer support groups. These groups have proved to be a valuable support in combating the cultural problems associated with a population from diverse socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. It is the project's hope that in the future, the facilitators of The Hope Project will train teachers of other schools to facilitate groups for adults and children.
