Proof We Can Learn, No Matter Our Age!

Hazel Soares, a resident of San Leandro, California, will be graduating from Mills College next month with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. Her story may sound like that of many college students, but Hazel has the added bonus of being 94 years old!
This mother of six and grandmother of 40+ hopes to use her degree in a career as a History Museum docent. In addition to art, she has a deep love of the theater and swimming. Her age doesn't slow her down at all, but it has put her in line to be the second oldest college graduate to earn a degree in the world.
Hazel does not take any prescription medicines and her doctor gives her a clean bill of health after her regular check-ups. It's her passion for understanding how to do things, and not age, that remains her daily focus.
"I have the endurance and I would totally put my heart into it," she said. "I've put in my time and I do have the background for this kind of work, you know."
